In January 2026, the Phoenix City Council voted to prioritize high-capacity transit for the West Phoenix corridor, with Indian School Road as the preferred route.
Valley Metro will work closely with the City of Phoenix on planning and coordinate with partners at the Federal Transit Administration to explore funding opportunities for the proposed corridor.
Future steps include refining the Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA), to select a connection point to the existing light rail in central Phoenix. This work will be done in coordination with the City of Phoenix, the Transportation 2050 program and other stakeholders. Community engagement will be central to this work throughout the process.
Once an LPA is approved, next steps will include a more refined right-of-way assessment, preliminary engineering including station locations and a refined operating plan. Future community outreach activities will revisit the issues and concerns identified in previous outreach feedback.
