New temporary station closures in downtown Phoenix for Valley Metro Rail
Light rail trains arrive every 20 minutes through July 2
PHOENIX – Construction crews have nearly completed the first phase of a major track installation project in downtown Phoenix as part of the South Central Extension/Downtown Hub light rail project. Construction crews will soon begin the next phase of work as they install new tracks to create a two-line system.
Valley Metro Rail service will adjust temporarily due to construction. Now through July 2, all light rail trains are estimated to arrive at station platforms every 20 minutes throughout the service day. Riders are asked to plan ahead to ensure timely arrivals at their destinations.
In addition to the temporary rail schedule, some stations in downtown Phoenix will be closed. Beginning Friday, May 13, riders must board and de-board at:
- Van Buren/Central Ave
- Washington/Central Ave
- 3rd St/Washington

Construction will also impact vehicle traffic and pedestrian accessibility in downtown Phoenix. Lanes are restricted along Jefferson Street and 1st Avenue. See map for details.
