Valley Metro is excited to announce artist Tato Caraveo as our newest Artsline Spotlight Artist for the fall/winter season. Artsline creates a sense of place through a variety of artwork and seeks to enhance connections to transit through art.
Caraveo is a local artist with ties to the South Central and Downtown Phoenix communities. While his more well-known murals have a smooth, jazz vibe, Caraveo came up with a completely new concept for Valley Metro Artsline.
The artwork featured on the inside and outside of the train highlights Caraveo’s fine art technique using veils of light and color. Whereas his large-scale mural at the Roosevelt/Central Ave light rail station pays homage to the richness of Native American culture and desert landscapes in Arizona.
“I wanted to paint something to capture the imagination for more than a quick second,” said Caraveo. “I’d love for everyone to have their own experience with my art and allow them to meditate while they wait for the train.”
Caraveo’s artwork is already on our light rail train and his mural will be up at the light rail station in time for November First Friday.
