The heat is here! Valley Metro is committed to your safety year-round. Here are a few tips for keeping you cool all summer long while using public transit.

1. Bring water in a spill-proof container. Staying hydrated is very important to combat heat exhaustion because it cools you from the inside out. If you feel thirsty, you’re already dehydrated.

2. Wear a hat or bring an umbrella for instant shade. Not all bus stops have shade structures so be prepared to create your own. Did you know that you can get a sunburn in just 15 minutes? Reason enough to protect your face at all times!

3. Wear long-sleeved shirts and/or pants. We know it’s hot, but wearing light clothing protects you from the intense sun. Having a light jacket or pullover will also help keep you more comfortable indoors.

4. Use hydration stations! These stations are for people to grab water and recoup in a cool place. Find a location near you, by visiting maricopa.gov/2461/Cooling-Stations-Water-Donation.
