Commit to the cause this fall by changing up your commute! Celebrate Rideshare Month this October and make a difference by joining a carpool or vanpool, taking transit, teleworking, biking or walking to work.
During the month of October, Valley commuters are encouraged to try an alternative mode of transportation and reduce their single-vehicle trips to help cut down on vehicle emissions.
"Rideshare Month is more than a campaign; it's an opportunity for each of us to directly contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable environment,” said Abigail Cooksey-Williams, TDM Manager. “By choosing alternate modes of transportation, not only are we reducing congestion and emissions, but we're also paving the way for innovative, community-oriented commuting solutions."
In October 2022, nearly 2,000 commuters in the Valley participated in Rideshare Month by carpooling, vanpooling, riding transit, biking, and teleworking-saving 730,485 miles from being traveled. They also helped improve our air quality by saving 278 tons of carbon dioxide emissions and nearly 28,000 gallons of gas, resulting in a savings of $435,000 dollars. Commuters who chose to walk or bike were also able to collectively burn more than 891,000 calories!
Participants can log their alternative commutes at ShareTheRide.com for the chance to win weekly and monthly prizes, as well as a grand prize of a one-night stay at the Hilton Phoenix Resort at the Peak. Commuters can also track their impact and earn fun perks at the same time.
The first challenge is already underway. Now through October 7, commuters can log their trips for a chance at winning family four packs to the Arizona State Fair. Follow along on the ShareTheRideandSave Facebook page for more chances to win throughout the month.
