From: "Friends of Transit NEWS" To: "Friends of Transit NEWS" Subject: Election Day is Tuesday, November 6th Date: Tuesday, October 16, 2001 11:18 PM A few weeks ago, we sent you an email bulletin educating our friends about Proposition 100 relating to the expansion of the Phoenix Civic Plaza. As a reminder, this item is up for a vote in the City of Phoenix. Election Day is Tuesday, November 6th. As you may know, the Civic Plaza is one of the station stops along the Central Phoenix - East Valley Light Rail line. If the Civic Plaza expands, it is highly likely that many of those attending conventions and public meetings at the Civic Plaza will make use of the light rail system that will stop at this destination. Several of our frequent readers found the information to be very helpful in learning about this ballot proposition. And now that the Early Ballots have been delivered to voters requesting their ballots through the mail, some of our readers have asked for additional information about the two other items that are on the upcoming City of Phoenix General Election: Proposition 101 and Proposition 102. If Proposition 101 is adopted, it will change the limit for serving as a City Council Member from two four-year terms to three consecutive four-year terms. This change would not affect the limit for serving as Mayor of two four-year terms. In the Sample Ballot and Publicity Pamphlet produced by the City of Phoenix, there was one letter of support submitted by Jake Jacobsen, Chairman of the Phoenix Good Government Committee. Mr. Jacobsen is also the President of P.L.E.A. (The Phoenix Law Enforcement Association). There were no letters published opposing Proposition 101. You can visit the City of Phoenix's website www.phoenix.gov to view his letter, and all the letters of support or opposition to each of the three propositions. The final ballot item, Proposition 102 is generally viewed as a 'housekeeping measure' that allows all Citywide elections in the City of Phoenix to be considered "General" elections. The City currently has no provision for any election to be entitled a General Election. This would allow anything that may need to be done at a General Election, to be done at any citywide election. No arguments in support or opposition were filed for Proposition 102.
